The Crone
Acrylic on raw canvas. 152cm x 91cm. 2017

I painted this for my friend Aidan while living in Sydney, Australia. She took me in when I didn’t have a a place to stay. The piece is inspired by the Motherpeace Tarot card “IX Crone”. Instead of Hekate standing at the crossroads, Mum Shirl, also known as the “Black Saint”, an Aboriginal Australian woman who spent her life helping Aboriginal prisoners, children and the community, stands strong as guide and protector. She is accompanied by two watchful dingoes in the hills. The Moon Goddess bringing in that nighttime mind and intuition is meant to look a little like Aidan.
